Civil Processing Department

The Civil Processing Department is located in the basement of the Clerk of Court’s Office.

The Civil Processing Department is responsible for the filing of all Civil suits, Adoptions, Domestic Abuse, Successions and all other civil matters. This includes the proper recording of the costs associated with any filings. 

The Civil Processing Department also issues all civil citations, writs, subpoenas, and other processes of the Court. They collect, in accordance with  La. R.S. 13:842, advance payment from the plaintiff for the anticipated costs the Clerk will have in the initial handling and processing of the pleading.

Fax Filings

The Terrebonne Parish Clerk of Court operates several different machines capable of sending and receiving faxes.

In accordance with La. R.S. 13:850, the Civil Processing Dept. does accept fax filings in Civil matters. The filing will have no force and effect unless the following is complied with by the filing party as set out in La R.S. 13:850 (A), (B) and (C).

  • The filing party forwards the original of the pleading within seven days, exclusive of holidays, after the fax filing is transmitted.
  • The filing party pays the fax transmission fee and all filing fees.
  • The date of receipt of the fax filing is considered the date of filing of the document.

NOTE: No Civil pleadings will be filed or service perfected without the proper advance deposit. To receive certified copies of judgments, all outstanding court costs must be paid. Total court costs must be paid before a suit is dismissed.
