1. State certified copy of birth certificate for both parties.   If either party was born out of the country, the original or certified copy of the birth certificate, plus a translated notarized birth certificate along with a valid state ID card or hard copy of your driver’s license. (LA RS 9:226)
2. Proof of age-applicants must be 18 years old or older.
3. A minor sixteen or seventeen years of age may not enter into a matrimonial agreement without judicial authorization and the written concurrence of his father and mother, or of the parent having his legal custody, or of the tutor of his person.
4. A minor sixteen or seventeen years of age may not contract marriage with a person of the age of majority where there is an age difference of three years or greater between them.
5. Licenses must be purchased at least 24 hours in advance of the ceremony. (Effective 8-1-2018)
6. A Marriage License expires thirty (30) days from the date of issue if not used.
7. Licenses obtained in Louisiana may only be used in Louisiana.
8. Fees: The cost is $28.00, plus $5 for any additional attachments (waiver, translation, etc.)  THE MARRIAGE LICENSE DEPARTMENT ACCEPTS CASH ONLY FOR PAYMENT.
   WE DO NOT ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS IN THIS DEPARTMENT.  
9. A medical certificate is not required.
10. Acceptable identification:  Original driver’s license, passport, or government issued identification.
